From Welfare to $1 Million in Sales: My Interview with Farnoosh Torabi for the So Money Podcast
Three years ago, I could never have imagined that I’d be interviewed by a personal finance expert about money.
For a start, I didn’t have any money and, second, I had absolutely jack to say about how I earned, spent, and saved my cash. Hello, we were the family eating Thanksgiving dinner on the lounge-room floor in November 2013 because we didn’t have enough money to buy sofa!
But as it turned out, a couple of years later this personal finance expert was plenty interested.
When Farnoosh Torabi heard via our mutual friend Selena Soo that my not-even-a-year-old business had already cleared $890,000, she got in touch and asked me to be a guest on her So Money Podcast.
Farnoosh Torabi is America’s leading personal finance authority and she’s all about helping Americans of all ages live their richest, happiest lives.
From her early days reporting for Money Magazine to now hosting the primetime series, Follow the Leader on CNBC, and writing monthly for O, The Oprah Magazine and Mint.com, she’s become the go-to money expert for millennials.
In this interview (that covers snippets of my childhood as well as present day), I share:
- How I went from being a “digital nobody” to generating almost a million dollars in online sales during my first year of business.
- The exact steps I took to build a massive online community and how my life has changed now that we as a family have more money than we ever thought we’d have.
- What money really means to me.
This is one of my favorite interviews so I’m excited to pull it out of the archive and share it with you!
